Maria Markova
Ms. Markova has vast experience in the areas of public law, general liability, labor and employment, civil rights, personal injury, and business litigation matters. She manages cases competently and soundly, with budget-sensitive strategies. Ms. Markova has had outstanding results litigating in both state and federal courts and has spent her entire career providing her clients with exceptional legal representation.
Ms. Markova has further provided various services to counties and other public entities, including litigation services, as well as representation in administrative evidentiary hearings and appellate matters.
Through her in-depth and varied experiences, Ms. Markova offers a diversity of skills to her clients on a full range of legal issues. Ms. Markova is accustomed to managing high-stakes legal crises and sensitive investigatory matters. Through these experiences, Ms. Markova understands the complex, sensitive, and ethical issues clients face in their day-to-day operations.
Ms. Markova’s recent accomplishments include defending a public entity in an appellate proceeding involving complex constitutional law mattes under the state and federal constitutions, which was heard by the California Supreme Court in October 2019. In a highly divided opinion, the Supreme Court issued a decision, wherein Chief Justice Tani-Cantil-Sakauye adopted the position advocated by Ms. Markova on behalf of her client.
While in law school, Ms. Markova served as judicial extern for Justice William F. Rylaarsdam of the California Court of Appeal.
Ms. Markova is admitted to practice before all state courts, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
In 2005, Ms. Markova was also awarded the President’s Call to Service and Volunteer Service Awards. Ms. Markova continues to handle matters on volunteer and pro bono basis.
